A Year in Review – 2021’s biggest highlight: Collaboration

Published by Nikki Medanovic on

Just a few weeks ago, EUN Academy’s Spring 2022 catalogue became available, listing all the exciting new MOOCs we’re launching. But before we fully jump into 2022, we’re going to take a look at some of our numbers and most important moments of 2021.

10 MOOCs; 9,500 participants; and an estimated 110,000 impacted pupils. These are the raw numbers of 2021. Courses ranged from eSafety and several STEM-themed ones, to Digital Education with Cultural Heritage. (We are running the latter again in early February so sign up soon!)

In our surveys, participants cited course structure and utility of resources as positives of the course. But many participants shared that they loved the potential to collaborate with educators across Europe. 2021 was a big collaboration year with seven TeachMeets, an informal way for teachers to share ideas, lesson plans and network with other teachers.

“The quality of the online instruction. Loved the activities, the split between activities, the visuals, the collaboration opportunities…. it was simply WONDERFUL”

TeachMeets in Action

In the EU Code Week Online Bootcamp, course coordinator Arijana Blazic hosted a TeachMeet where educators from all over Europe presented on different coding apps or strategies they used in the classroom.

Some even showed how they already used in their classroom the collaborative and interdisciplinary activities that they learned in the MOOC.

All the ways educators were able to connect through our MOOCs reinforce the two main principles behind all our courses: social constructivism and connectivism; two theories that hold the connection people make as central to the learning process. TeachMeets give educators concrete examples on how to implement the suggested activities in their classroom, plus tips on how they can improve them. This kind of growth is only possible with teamwork.

I like everything! I really like the approach full of examples and sharing experiences by peers

Already our first two courses on offer this year are emphasizing our approach on the use of collaboration. With scheduled TeachMeets and live webinars, the emphasis continues to be on active learning and learning from other. (You are still on time to enroll in these MOOCs, and contribute to TeachMeets either as a speaker or as a listener).
